Mont Saint Michel:
|
||
| Is it Norman or Breton? Located in Normandy, it remains Breton of cur. "Wonder of the Occident", high place of medieval spirituality, the Mount rises over the sands of an immense bay which the sea swallows up "au gallop". Founded in 708 by Saint Aubert, Bishop of Avranches who wanted to pay homage to the holy archangel Michel (statue gilded at the top of the arrow). It was invaded by the Normans in the Xth century, and from the year 1000, the monks built the abbey which radiated over all of Europe in the XIIth century, attracting crowds of pilgrims. Terraces, staircases and covered ways make it possible to explore the only street in the village where specialized restaurants serve the famous omelettes of the Mother Poulard and the delicious "salt meadow" lamb. | ||
