Montparnasse
If you are a poetry & paintings amateur, a lover of words and colours that express life, freedom, and dreams, this visit will enthral and captivate you. Today's Montparnasse is very much the same it was yesterday. This part of Paris overlaps 2 districts, and still retains the imprint left by two distinct movements, one intellectual, and one artistic, hence two different publics.
The first one was mostly attracted by the conviviality and simplicity of the "Bistros", the workshops, whose content and décor were sometimes the main attractions, and often were better than the artwork itself…. On the opposite end, the second public was more flashy and wanted to see and be seen, and to that extent liked the places like La Coupole & La Rotonde.

The frontier between The Boulevard de Montparnasse & Le Boulevard Raspail isn't insurmountable, and it is fascinating to witness these two so different Art Schools and their contrasts. One must keep in mind that they inspired poets, writers, painters, such as Beaudelaire, Apollinaire, Manet, Monet, Chagall, Cocteau, Simone de Beauvoir, etc. ...
