If you are a lover of unusual battles, the story of this historical duel between two Parisian Galleries of the 19th century will seduce you as much at this rhythmical walk through long galleries lined up with shops with entrances and exists right in the heart of Paris Once upon a time Vivienne. Beautiful, warm and cordial, unfolding it's charms of the Second Empire, it was the first gallery to offer a short cut filled with broad spaces where it was pleasant to stroll protected from the noises of the nearby boulevards, as well as from the rain and cold. But in letting the luminous daylight stream through it's glass roof and flaunting under it's dome a statue of Mercury, God of business, which provoked a lot of jealousies Than, shortly after, and to add rivalry the Colbert's Gallery opened. Taking its inspiration from an Antiquity décor, it developed different treasures. Very luxurious, covered with red and yellow marbles, it became the more monumental of the two, with its glass Dome and it's large rotunda. But, even with all these efforts of grandness, Vivienne, its rival sister remained the favourite. Only you can be the judges. |
